Chapter 7, Mishna 3 The garments of the High Priest were made of extremely fine craftsmanship, and every element held symbolic meaning. According to the Lubavitcher Rebbe, they represent three types of Jews. If he didn’t atone for us we’d have been destroyed. Even today, our atonement saves us. Like the Ark of the Covenant, which was golden inside and out, a Torah scholar’s inside must match his outside, i.e. his deeds must be as righteous as his learning, and his learning must lead to fear of Heaven, or he can’t be called a Torah scholar at all. Our days pass by, our possessions whither away, but our holy deeds stand forever.
