Chapter 1, Mishna 2 According to Rabbi Akiva, the waters of purification – which purify a person who became ritually impure by coming into contact with a corpse – render a person IMPURE if he was pure when he was sprinkled. So how can a High Priest – who is sprinkled with these waters daily during his 7 days of sequestering prior to Yom Kippur – perform the daily service during those days? For if he was pure to begin with (probable), then the waters render him impure, and he is disqualified from performing these services! And what spiritual lesson can we learn from this law?
