Chapter 4, Mishna 3
Understanding the sacrificial system on a spiritual level. In ancient world animal sacrifices were the primary way people worshiped God. Maimonides: sacrificial system meant to be temporary. Rav Kook: when Temple is rebuilt we will bring sacrifices, but not animals and it will be temporary (not everybody agrees with this.) Imagine the experience of bringing sacrifice: had to take them a long distance, perhaps there was a relationship with animal. Seeing animal die should make us grateful for our blessings. Can we find that intensity in prayer system instead of animal sacrifices?
When money for sin offering is mingled with unallocated funds. If sin offering was set aside for the conclusion of nazirus, can’t be used for any other offering. Derivative offerings. In a matter that you treat an offering you must treat its substitute. One does not bring offspring of peace offering to die.
