Having established that Beis Shammai followed their own rulings, but the law is like Beis Hillel in the case of a daughter’s co-wife, we learn that Yonasan, the sharp-tongued brother of Dosa ben Harkinas, promoted a false narrative that the law was like Beis Shammai. Rabbis Yehoshua, Akiva and Elazar ben Azarya visited Dosa and set things straight. Dosa’s son Chanina later taught in Pirkei Avos: he who prioritizes wisdom over fear of Heaven, his wisdom will not endure!
