Chapter 2, Mishna 4, 5
Certain dilemmas with respect to the scroll dissolved in the bitter water are left unresolved. With regard to what does she say amen amen? Amen on the curse as she accepts it upon herself if she is guilty. Amen on the oath as she declared she is not defiled. R’ Meir said: amen that I did not become defiled in the past, amen that I will not be defiled in the future. Sotah drinks the bitter water because she was suspected of committing adultery with a particular man, but once she’s there her husband can make her swear that she did not commit adultery with other men while married to him. Can the same woman be a sotah twice?
