The soul is reluctant to enter this world and reluctant to leave this world. What changes in between?

In the second half of Lesson 1, we address the contradiction between a soul’s longing for a return to the World of Souls and the soul’s crucial mission here, which motivates the Jewish regard for life above all things. Our bodily needs die with our bodies, so the time we spend focusing on physical pleasures does not contribute to the soul’s “treasury” in the World of Souls. The pursuits of Torah, commandments and deeds of lovingkindness, however, do create major deposits into that treasury…
