Our sages had a radical idea.
The entire world is balanced on a razor edge between good and evil. Therefore we should always see ourselves and the whole world as perfectly balanced, half merit, half guilt.
And one single mitzvah* could tip the scale, not just for me or you, but for the entire world.
It says in the Talmud (Kiddushin 40b) that your next action isn’t small. It could be a kind word, an honest choice, overcoming a destructive impulse, giving charity when no one’s watching.
Perhaps you caught this message today because your next action might save the world. Be strong and know how much you matter!
* “Mitzvah” literally means commandment, referring to any of the 613 laws given by God to the Jewish people. Sometimes used to refer to a good deed.
